Planar Systems, Inc. is a leading provider of specialty display solutions. The Company is headquartered in Beaverton Oregon and has manufacturing locations in the US and Finland, where the Company manufactures proprietary Electroluminescent (EL) displays. The market fundamentals of the display industry are driven by three key growth factors: 1) the proliferation of display products, from both the increase in “smart” devices throughout modern life and flat panels’ versatility for a wider range of uses, 2) the ongoing need for system providers and integrators to rely on display experts to provide solutions, and 3) the emerging market for targeting advertising and messaging to consumers using large format digital signs.

Planar provides quality solutions to following markets:

• Industrial - This business focuses on providing embedded, ruggedized/customized displays to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to include in their systems. Key technologies in this segment include Electroluminescent (EL) Displays, Active-matrix Liquid Crystal Displays (AMLCD), and passive Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD). These technologies are used in a wide variety of applications and industries including instrumentation, retail digital signage, medical equipment, vehicle dashboards, and military applications.
• Control Room & Signage - This business is focused on providing high-resolution video walls for the security, governmental, telecom, energy, industrial, broadcast, and transportation sectors. Key technologies used in solutions for video walls include rear-projection video cubes and image processing hardware and software. In addition, this segment sells LCD based solutions, both in large-format, stand-alone commercial applications and also tiled together using thin-bezel LCD technologies and the same industry leading image processing hardware and software to form a wall of information.
• Home Theater - This segment sells innovative products for the high-end home theater enthusiast including high-performance home theater projection systems, large-format thin displays, and unique rear-projection solutions. This business primarily goes to market under the industry leading Runco brand and sells products directly to custom home installation dealers, mostly in the United States.
• Commercial - This business sells desktop LCD monitors, touchscreen monitors, business projectors and network displays, through IT resellers, primarily in the United States. The business operates in a business to business model, where key relationships are formed with Asian suppliers who work with Planar to design and manufacture products to our specifications, using the Planar brand which are then sold to the IT reseller channel, and ultimately purchased by various business users.
